Three Springs Ranch is a family owned business and homestead. We've created a life here out of concern about a loss of connection with nature, our food and soulful work. We are endeavoring to find a happy medium between farming, generating income and preservation of wildland habitat.
We currently raise 85% of our food. We have two orchards, a large vegetable garden, laying hens and goats for brush control and meat. We also have a 1 acre spring fed pond where we raise catfish as well as provide habitat for numerous waterfowl and migrating birds, and enjoy swimming in the summer.
We believe in a practice of creatively excluding the native predators from our food gardens and herds rather than exterminating them. This still leaves the majority of the land to them. We are using natural building techniques such as cob and strawbale and on-site materials to build outbuildings and eventually a workshop/ studio and living quarters. Our future plans include implementing solar power generation, habitat restoration and control of invasive plant species.
We hope visitors to our vacation cabins can share in the happiness and peace that a connection with the land gives you.
Our Green Commitment is to do as much as we can to live and work with a small footprint.
• Two of our vacation rental cabins are recycled buildings in that they were in a state of severe disrepair when we obtained them and have been rehabilitated.
• In the remodeling process, we have installed the most energy efficient heating and cooling systems and appliances we could find.
• We have used recycled materials, local lumber from managed forests and sustainable materials whenever possible including real all-natural linoleum (made from linseed oil and wood fiber), laminate flooring, saltillo tile, natural milk paint and linseed oil glazes.
• Most of the furniture in our rental cabins is used or hand made.
• Except for dimmable lights, we have replaced all lightbulbs with compact flourescents.
• We provide firewood harvested from dead trees on our ranch for use in heating our rental cabins. This serves as an option for guests to have ambiance as well as a non-petroleum carbon-negative heat source.
• All linens are laundered in a super high efficiency front loader machine and line dried by the sun.
• We use only non-toxic cleaning products: Simple Green, natural Orange Cleaner, Vinegar and Murphy's Oil Soap.
• In our remote location, there is no trash pick-up service. We sort and separate recyclables from our cabins and truck them into a recycling center.
• In 2009, we will be converting at least one of our cabins to solar power.
